Today we will look at the monitor KD-65XF8577 from Sony from the year 2018. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Let's start with the size of the display. It is 64 inches ( 1.639 m on the diagonal) large and should thus offer enough space for all contents according to Sony. As already mentioned or known, monitors have a certain number of pixels in height and width. In most cases, this is not a 1:1 ratio, which is also the case with the monitor from Sony. This monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 116. This means that every 1.778 pixels in width 116 pixels in height are added. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be important for some enthusiasts. This ratio describes the general relationship between the non-display area and the display. In other words, approximately 94.6 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and does not enable image reproduction. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 68 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.372 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Sony is 500 nt. The monitor's panel reaches a peak brightness of 550 nt. The panel is illuminated by Edge LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Sony promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 100 hz up to 120 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The maximum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms.
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 90 %. The REC 2020 color space is covered to 67 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Sony has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 10
- HDR HLG
screen design
Without the stand, the monitor comes with a width of 1.45 m , a height of 83.6 cm and about 5.2 cm.
The size of the KD-65XF8577 on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. Sony specifies a space requirement of 90 x 1.45 x 31.5 m (HxWxD) with the included stand. As for the weight, Sony states a total weight of 26.5 kg with stand. The monitor KD-65XF8577 without the stand weighs 25.6 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from Sony cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. A tilt function was not provided by Sony with the included stand.
Ports
The monitor named ' KD-65XF8577 ' has 1 RJ45 Ethernet port(s), which enables a wired network connection. This port offers users the possibility to connect the device directly to a wired network, which can be beneficial in environments with a reliable and fast internet connection.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
Features
WiFi / Bluetooth
This model ( KD-65XF8577 ) supports Wi-Fi. This wireless network connection allows devices to display content from a smartphone or tablet, for example, or to download apps from an app store, similar to TVs. However, monitors usually do not have this functionality because they are only operated in connection with a notebook or PC. The protocols are supported:
For a monitor, "WiFi Direct" refers to a feature that allows you to establish a direct connection between the monitor and another WLAN-enabled device without the need for a wireless network. This allows you, for example, to display content from your smartphone or tablet on the monitor without having to be near a WLAN network. The monitor KD-65XF8577 supports this function as a matter of course. The KD-65XF8577 supports Bluetooth.
Power consumption
On average, the monitor consumes approximately 120 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 218 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The monitor has a built-in ambient light sensor, which can be used, for example, to dynamically adjust the brightness of the monitor to the ambient conditions. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Sony should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity.
