Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the KD-55X85J NA monitor from Sony. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.
Display
Any multimedia content can be displayed on 54 inches ( 1.3880000000000001 m on the diagonal). While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.778 : 116 (width to height). Besides the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display is probably also relevant for some enthusiasts. This is the general ratio of non-display to display. In other words, 93.8 % of the monitor's front area consists of the display. The remaining percent consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, you should make sure that the edges are as small as possible. The display is a VA panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 80 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.315 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Sony is 500 nt. The panel is illuminated by Direct LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Sony promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 40 hz up to 120 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms.
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Sony has a static contrast ratio of 6300 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 10
- HDR HLG
- Dolby Vision
screen design
Sony Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor KD-55X85J NA without stand/feet: 71.1 cm x 1.2329999999999999 m x 7.2 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 78.4 x 1.2329999999999999 x 33.8 m (HxWxD). The base itself has a depth of 33.8 cm. The width of the stand is 1.061 m. The device weighs 17.7 kg with the stand in place. The monitor KD-55X85J NA without the stand weighs 16.8 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from Sony cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. A tilt function was not provided by Sony with the included stand.
Ports
The monitor named ' KD-55X85J NA ' has 1 RJ45 Ethernet port(s), which enables a wired network connection. This port offers users the possibility to connect the device directly to a wired network, which can be beneficial in environments with a reliable and fast internet connection.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
Features
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
WiFi / Bluetooth
This model ( KD-55X85J NA ) supports Wi-Fi. This wireless network connection allows devices to display content from a smartphone or tablet, for example, or to download apps from an app store, similar to TVs. However, monitors usually do not have this functionality because they are only operated in connection with a notebook or PC. The protocols are supported:
Wi-Fi Direct is supported by KD-55X85J NA , which is a standard for data transfer between two WLAN devices without a central wireless access point. This functionality makes it possible, for example, to send and display pictures and videos directly to the monitor without a Wi-Fi connection to the router.
Power consumption
On average, the monitor consumes approximately 185 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The monitor has a built-in ambient light sensor, which can be used, for example, to dynamically adjust the brightness of the monitor to the ambient conditions. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Sony should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 84 x 1.3619999999999999 x 16 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 25 kg.
