Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the S24A600 from Samsung.

Display

Games, texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 23 inches ( 60.4 cm on the diagonal). The size specification of a monitor refers to the screen diagonal, which is usually specified in inches. It is only comparable to a limited extent for different formats. For example, a conventional 4:3 monitor with the same screen diagonal has 6% less width, but 13% more height and a total of 7% more surface area than a monitor in 16:10 format. Despite the difference in working area, wider monitors are better suited for consuming games or current movies, for example. It is also easier to display several documents simultaneously on widescreen monitors. So, it depends on the current use case whether the aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1 makes sense for the intended use case. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be important for some enthusiasts. This ratio describes the general relationship between the non-display area and the display. In other words, approximately 88 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and does not enable image reproduction. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 123 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.206 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Samsung is 300 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Samsung promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 75 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Samsung has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10

screen design

Without the stand, the monitor comes with a width of 54.2 cm , a height of 32.7 cm and about 4.1 cm.
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 41 x 54.2 x 19.6 cm (HxWxD). The base itself has a depth of 19.6 cm. The device weighs 4.9 kg with the stand in place. A wall mount should be designed for at least 2.8 kg to hold the S24A600 neatly and securely. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 12 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Samsung has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The S24A600 can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 30 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 30 degree. Thanks to the tilt function of the S24A600 monitor, the screen position can be flexibly adjusted to minimize dazzling light sources and ensure optimum visibility. The angle of inclination to the rear is 25. The monitor can be tilted forward by 2 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: Samsung 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the S24A600 with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
  • Picture in Picture mode
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Samsung offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor S24A600. Game mode allows you to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience on your monitor. This mode can combine different settings on your monitor to provide a better picture and therefore an improved gaming experience. A built-in timer can automatically turn off the device after a predefined operating time. This feature is useful, for example, if you want to turn off the monitor automatically after 8 hours of work or if you simply forget to do so.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. S24A600 supports a static ECO mode, which for example lowers the refresh rate, reduces brightness and disables AI functions to save energy. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

For temperature, the maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C. Below a temperature of 10 °C , the monitor from Samsung should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 95 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Samsung 40 °C. Minimal were given by Samsung -20 °C.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 41.6 x 61.6 x 17.6 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 5.9 kg.
