Today we will look at the monitor 240P4QPYEB from Philips from the year 2014. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
24 inches ( 61.1 cm on the diagonal) offer sufficient space for texts in any office applications, for example. For books or documents, a portrait format layout is usually used because the reading flow decreases as the width of the text increases. For small diagonals, screens in 4:3 format have a clear advantage because they are better suited for display due to their height. In contrast, widescreen monitors are better suited for playing video games or displaying several documents side by side, for example. Depending on the application, it should be decided individually whether the aspect ratio of 1.6 : 1 is sufficient. Approximately 78 % of the front surface of the monitor is taken up by the display, while the remaining part is screen edges that do not allow the image to be displayed. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose models with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px. The pixel density is 94 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.27 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Philips is 300 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Philips promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the 240P4QPYEB 30 khz to 83 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 76 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms.
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Philips has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 20000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor 240P4QPYEB cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio. The monitor from Philips supports adaptive contrast management, dynamically adjusting the contrast ratio of the input signal to ensure razor-sharp image displays. Each scene is continuously analyzed by 240P4QPYEB and the images are adjusted accordingly frame by frame. This analysis and dynamic adjustment of contrast is designed to enhance color quality and provide better black levels when displaying dark scenes and shaded/dark image sequences.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
Without the stand, the monitor comes with a width of 55.5 cm , a height of 38.8 cm and about 6.5 cm.
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 42 x 55.5 x 24.4 cm (HxWxD). As for the weight, Philips states a total weight of 6.97 kg with stand. The monitor 240P4QPYEB without the stand weighs 4.64 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 13 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from Philips has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The 240P4QPYEB can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 65 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 65 degree. It is possible to adjust the tilt angle of the monitor 240P4QPYEB according to personal preference to ensure ergonomic and comfortable viewing. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from Philips has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 1.5 w power.
Features
- Flicker Free: Philips 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
On average, the monitor consumes approximately 18.3 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 26.7 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.3 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 12.3 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 3.658 km. For temperature, the maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Philips should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 20 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 80 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 20 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Philips 60 °C. Minimal were given by Philips -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
