Today we will look at the monitor MultiSync PA242W from NEC from the year 2013. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the 24 inches ( 61.1 cm on the diagonal) of the monitor. While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.6 : 1 (width to height). Approximately 83.1 % of the front surface of the monitor is covered by the display, while the remaining area consists of screen edges that do not allow any image output. If you want to set up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a AH panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px. The pixel density is 94 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.27 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer NEC is 340 nt. The panel is illuminated by GB-r LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. NEC promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the MultiSync PA242W 31.5 khz to 91.1 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 50 hz up to 85 hz. The analog refresh rate of this monitor is 31.5 khz to 93.8 khz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 99 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 94 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from NEC has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 36.3 cm in height, 55.6 cm in width and 8.3 cm in depth is to be assumed.
The size of the MultiSync PA242W on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. NEC specifies a space requirement of 37.8 x 55.6 x 22.8 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. The device weighs 10.6 kg with the stand in place. The monitor MultiSync PA242W without the stand weighs 7.4 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 15 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from NEC has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The MultiSync PA242W can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 45 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 45 degree. The monitor MultiSync PA242W offers the option of adjusting the tilt as required to create an ergonomic working environment and reduce visual fatigue. The angle of inclination to the rear is 30. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
Features
- Picture in Picture mode
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Panel manufacturer
Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from NEC or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from LG Display and has the model number LM240WU9.

Power consumption
The average consumption figure for MultiSync PA242W is 37 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 56 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 2 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.2 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 28 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 0.84 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The monitor has a built-in ambient light sensor, which can be used, for example, to dynamically adjust the brightness of the monitor to the ambient conditions. The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. For temperature, the maximum permissible ambient temperature is 35 °C. Below a temperature of 5 °C , the monitor from NEC should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 20 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 10 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to NEC 60 °C. Minimal were given by NEC -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
