Today we will look at the monitor MultiSync P212 from NEC from the year 2015. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 21 inches ( 54.1 cm on the diagonal). While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.333 : 1 (width to height). Around 83.5 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest is made up of screen edges that cannot display images. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer those with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 1600 x 1200 px. The pixel density is 94 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.27 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer NEC is 440 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. NEC promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the MultiSync P212 31.5 khz to 99.5 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 50 hz up to 85 hz. The analog refresh rate of this monitor is 31.5 khz to 94 khz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The maximum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 77 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 74 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from NEC has a static contrast ratio of 1500 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
For a possible wall mounting or comparison to the currently owned monitor at the beginning, the dimensions of the monitor without stand/feet: 35.9 cm x 46.6 cm x 6.3 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 37.4 x 46.6 x 22.7 cm (HxWxD). As for the weight, NEC states a total weight of 8 kg with stand. Without stand, the monitor weighs 4.8 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 15 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from NEC has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The MultiSync P212 can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 45 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 45 degree. The monitor MultiSync P212 can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 30. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from NEC has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 1 w power.
Features
Panel manufacturer
Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from NEC or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from Panasonic and has the model number VVX21F136J00.
NEC has built hardware/software into the MultiSync P212 to control different colored LEDs, most of which are located on the back of the device. Through intelligent control of the LEDs, colors of the image displayed on the monitor are projected onto the wall behind it, which is supposed to be easy on the eyes and at the same time make the image look more immersive. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Ambilight, Ambiglow, Atmolight or HiLight.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 57 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. MultiSync P212 supports a static ECO mode, which for example lowers the refresh rate, reduces brightness and disables AI functions to save energy. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 24 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 1 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 35 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 5 °C , the monitor from NEC should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 20 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 10 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to NEC 60 °C. Minimal were given by NEC -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
