Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the MultiSync E172M monitor from NEC. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.
Display
The display is sized at 17 inches ( 43.1 cm on the diagonal). The size specification of a monitor refers to the screen diagonal, which is usually specified in inches. It is only comparable to a limited extent for different formats. For example, a conventional 4:3 monitor with the same screen diagonal has 6% less width, but 13% more height and a total of 7% more surface area than a monitor in 16:10 format. Despite the difference in working area, wider monitors are better suited for consuming games or current movies, for example. It is also easier to display several documents simultaneously on widescreen monitors. So, it depends on the current use case whether the aspect ratio of 1.25 : 1 makes sense for the intended use case. Approximately 77.4 % of the front of the monitor is taken up by the display, while the remaining area consists of screen edges that cannot display any image information. If you want to set up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose monitors with narrow edges. The display is a TN panel. The panel has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 px. The pixel density is 96 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.264 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer NEC is 250 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 170 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. NEC promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 160 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the MultiSync E172M 31.5 khz to 81.1 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 76 hz. The analog refresh rate of this monitor is 31.5 khz to 81.1 khz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 76 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 72 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 102 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from NEC has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
The monitor has a width of 36.8 cm without its attached stand/stand. The height is dimensioned at about 32 cm , while the for the depth of the monitor should be kept free at about 6.1 cm.
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 35.8 x 36.8 x 23 cm (HxWxD). If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 4 kg with the stand screwed in. The monitor MultiSync E172M without the stand weighs 2.8 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 5 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from NEC cannot be rotated. The MultiSync E172M can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. The monitor MultiSync E172M offers the option of adjusting the tilt as required to create an ergonomic working environment and reduce visual fatigue. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports. There are 1 HDMI ports on the monitor.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from NEC has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 1 w power.
Features
- Flicker Free: NEC 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that NEC offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor MultiSync E172M. Ambix technology allows multiple devices such as computers, laptops, video devices and other sources to be connected to the monitor or TV simultaneously. This allows users to seamlessly switch between input sources and view content from different sources without having to reconnect cables each time.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
The average consumption figure for MultiSync E172M is 14 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 19 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.33 w. MultiSync E172M supports a static ECO mode, which for example lowers the refresh rate, reduces brightness and disables AI functions to save energy. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 9 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 1 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 2 km. For temperature, the maximum permissible ambient temperature is 35 °C. Below a temperature of 5 °C , the monitor from NEC should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 20 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 10 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to NEC 60 °C. Minimal were given by NEC -10 °c. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 17.5 x 48 x 4.3 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 5.6 kg.
