Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the Optix MAG342CQ from MSI.

Display

Let's start with the most important component of a monitor, the display. Depending on the aspect ratio of height and width, monitors can be rather wide or square, for example. Besides the pure physical dimensions, the resolution of the display and thus the quality of the display is also decisive here. For easy comparability, however, screen sizes are usually given in inches. This unit of measurement simply compares the diagonal length from the lower left to the upper right corner of the display and is thus universally applicable. This device has a screen diagonal of 34 inches ( 86.3 cm on the diagonal). While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 2.389 : 1 (width to height). The display is a VA panel. The panel has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 109 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.232 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer MSI is 300 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. MSI promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the Optix MAG342CQ 58.56 khz to 148.1 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 89 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 112 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from MSI has a static contrast ratio of 4000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 41.4 x 80.8 x 27 cm (HxWxD) of space. The base itself has a depth of 27 cm. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 6.8 kg with the stand screwed in. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 9 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Curved

The Optix MAG342CQ is a curved monitor with a curvature of 1.5 m

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from MSI has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 5 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 5 degree. The Optix MAG342CQ can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 30 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 30 degree. It is possible to adjust the tilt angle of the monitor Optix MAG342CQ according to personal preference to ensure ergonomic and comfortable viewing. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: MSI 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • Picture in Picture mode
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that MSI offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor Optix MAG342CQ. The Adaptive Sync feature of the Optix MAG342CQ dynamically varies the monitor's refresh rate and responds to the game's required frame rates.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

The average consumption was given by MSI as 46 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 1.5 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from MSI should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 85 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 95 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to MSI 60 °C. Minimal were given by MSI -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 48.5 x 91 x 21 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 9.3 kg.
