Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the 29UB65-P from LG.

Display

28 inches ( 73 cm on the diagonal) offer sufficient space for texts in any office applications, for example. The size specification of a monitor refers to the screen diagonal, which is usually specified in inches. It is only comparable to a limited extent for different formats. For example, a conventional 4:3 monitor with the same screen diagonal has 6% less width, but 13% more height and a total of 7% more surface area than a monitor in 16:10 format. Despite the difference in working area, wider monitors are better suited for consuming games or current movies, for example. It is also easier to display several documents simultaneously on widescreen monitors. So, it depends on the current use case whether the aspect ratio of 2.37 : 1 makes sense for the intended use case. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be important for some enthusiasts. This ratio describes the general relationship between the non-display area and the display. In other words, approximately 82.8 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and does not enable image reproduction. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a AH panel. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1080 px. The pixel density is 96 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.263 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 300 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the 29UB65-P 30 khz to 90 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 50 hz up to 75 hz. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 5000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor 29UB65-P cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 32.8 cm in height, 70.2 cm in width and 6.3 cm in depth is to be assumed.
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 42.5 x 70.2 x 22.5 cm (HxWxD) of space. The device weighs 6.8 kg with the stand in place. The monitor 29UB65-P without the stand weighs 5.2 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

The monitor, or rather the built-in OS, is controlled via a 5-way joystick. This allows navigating by moving the stick up, down, left or right. The input is usually confirmed by clicking the joystick. This input method makes it possible to change settings without having to search for different buttons under or next to the device.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from LG has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The monitor 29UB65-P can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Ports

camera

This monitor does not have a camera.

Loudspeaker

The monitor from LG has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 7 w power.

Features

  • Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.

Panel manufacturer

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from LG or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from LG Display and has the model number LM290WW1-SSA1.

Power consumption

The average consumption figure for 29UB65-P is 38 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 47 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.3 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 20 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 2.4 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.
