Today we will look at the monitor 32UL950 from LG from the year 2018. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Games, texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 31 inches ( 80.1 cm on the diagonal). As already mentioned or known, monitors have a certain number of pixels in height and width. In most cases, this is not a 1:1 ratio, which is also the case with the monitor from LG. This monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1. This means that every 1.778 pixels in width 1 pixels in height are added. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, some enthusiasts may also be interested in the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display. This ratio describes the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words, approximately 93.1 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to give preference to models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a AH panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 139 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.182 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 450 nt. The maximum brightness of the monitor is 750 nt on the panel. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the 32UL950 30 khz to 135 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 61 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 85 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 98 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %. The REC 2020 color space is covered to 70 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1300 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 10
- HDR 600
screen design
For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 41.2 cm in height, 71.5 cm in width and 4.5 cm in depth is to be assumed.
The size of the 32UL950 on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. LG specifies a space requirement of 48.4 x 71.5 x 23.1 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. As for the weight, LG states a total weight of 6.8 kg with stand. A wall mount should be designed for at least 5.5 kg to hold the 32UL950 neatly and securely. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from LG has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The monitor 32UL950 can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from LG has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 5 w power.
Features
- Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 32UL950 with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
The monitor from LG supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
The average consumption figure for 32UL950 is 70 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 200 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 1.2 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 35 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
For temperature, the maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 51.3 x 82 x 21.3 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 11.2 kg.
