Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the 27MD5KL monitor from LG. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.
Display
Any multimedia content can be displayed on 27 inches ( 68.4 cm on the diagonal). Television screens and monitors usually have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (approximately 1.78:1). More rarely, computer monitors are also found with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
Ultrawidemonitors are often manufactured with an aspect ratio of 21:9 (approximately 2.34:1). They are mainly used for computer games and as an alternative to two side-by-side screens. The first devices of this type came onto the market around 2014. Against this backdrop, the monitor 27MD5KL from LG faces an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1. If you want to pay attention to special aesthetics or simply want to place several monitors next to each other, you should pay attention to the ratio between display and non-display. The 27MD5KL is a monitor with a ratio of 68.9 % between usable and non-usable front surface. The display is a AH panel. The panel has a resolution of 5120 x 2880 px. The pixel density is 218 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.117 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 500 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the 27MD5KL 30 khz to 178 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 60 hz. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Glossy.
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 99 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1200 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
The monitor has a width of 62.6 cm without its attached stand/stand. The height is dimensioned at about 46.4 cm , while the for the depth of the monitor should be kept free at about 5.4 cm.
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 46.4 x 62.6 x 23.9 cm (HxWxD) of space. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 8.5 kg with the stand screwed in. According to LG , you can expect a weight of about 6.4 kg without the stand. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from LG cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. Thanks to the tilt function of the 27MD5KL monitor, the screen position can be flexibly adjusted to minimize dazzling light sources and ensure optimum visibility. The angle of inclination to the rear is 25. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
camera
The monitor from LG has a built-in camera, which makes it attractive for the home office or office, as no additional hardware is required.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from LG has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 5 w power.
Features
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Panel manufacturer
Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from LG or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from LG Display and has the model number LM270QQ2-SPA1.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
On average, the monitor consumes approximately 140 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 200 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 45.65 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 57.4 x 74.4 x 31.4 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 13.52 kg.
