Today we will look at the monitor 34GP83A from LG from the year 2020. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Games, texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 34 inches ( 86.3 cm on the diagonal). As already known, two monitors with different outer dimensions can have the same screen diagonal. In the case of the monitor 34GP83A , we find an aspect ratio of 2.389 to 1. This means that for every 1 pixels in height, 2.389 pixels in width are added. For comparison: A classic CRT monitor had an aspect ratio of 4:3. Approximately 90.4 % of the front of the monitor is taken up by the display, while the remaining area consists of screen edges that cannot display any image information. If you want to set up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose monitors with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 109 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.233 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 400 nt. The maximum brightness of the monitor is 450 nt on the panel. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 88 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 98 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 400
screen design
For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 36 cm in height, 82 cm in width and 10.4 cm in depth is to be assumed.
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 46.4 x 82 x 31.2 cm (HxWxD) of space. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 7.62 kg with the stand screwed in. Without stand, the monitor weighs 5.49 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Curved
The 34GP83A is a curved monitor with a curvature of 3.8 m
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from LG cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. It is possible to adjust the tilt angle of the monitor 34GP83A according to personal preference to ensure ergonomic and comfortable viewing. The angle of inclination to the rear is 15. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Features
- Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- AMD FreeSync Premium: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 34GP83A with frame rate, AMD FreeSync Premium minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gaming. In addition, AMD FreeSync Premium guarantees that the monitor operates at a minimum of 120Hz at FHD and low framerate compensation (LFC) is available.
- Nvidia G-SYNC
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that LG offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor 34GP83A. Game mode allows you to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience on your monitor. This mode can combine different settings on your monitor to provide a better picture and therefore an improved gaming experience. The monitor from LG supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.

Power consumption
The average consumption figure for 34GP83A is 72 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 80 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. Generally, these values should be taken with a grain of salt, since the power consumption is highly dependent on the current conditions. A monitor usually consumes much more power in bright scenes with a high refresh rate than in dark still pictures. In addition, the 34GP83A has a (smart) energy-saving mode, which is supposed to ensure a lower average power consumption. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 52 x 97.7 x 24.6 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 11.52 kg.
