Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the 32GN500 monitor from LG. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.

Display

Let's start with the size of the display. It is 31 inches ( 80.1 cm on the diagonal) large and should thus offer enough space for all contents according to LG. While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.778 : 1 (width to height). In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, some enthusiasts may also be interested in the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display. This ratio describes the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words, approximately 89.4 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to give preference to models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a VA panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The pixel density is 70 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.364 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 360 nt. Above all, bright environments are a challenge for monitors. The brightness of the monitor is crucial for an accurate and color-true reproduction of the image to outshine the ambient light. The panel of the 32GN500 shines with a brightness of 380 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 165 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 95 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 3000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10

screen design

Without the stand, the monitor comes with a width of 71.4 cm , a height of 42.8 cm and about 7.7 cm.
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 51.5 x 71.4 x 22.4 cm (HxWxD). As for the weight, LG states a total weight of 5.9 kg with stand. A wall mount should be designed for at least 5.2 kg to hold the 32GN500 neatly and securely. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from LG cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The monitor 32GN500 can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 15. The monitor can be tilted forward by 2 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 32GN500 with frame rate, AMD FreeSync Premium minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gaming. In addition, AMD FreeSync Premium guarantees that the monitor operates at a minimum of 120Hz at FHD and low framerate compensation (LFC) is available.
  • Nvidia G-SYNC
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that LG offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor 32GN500. The monitor from LG supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 40 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.3 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. Generally, these values should be taken with a grain of salt, since the power consumption is highly dependent on the current conditions. A monitor usually consumes much more power in bright scenes with a high refresh rate than in dark still pictures. In addition, the 32GN500 has a (smart) energy-saving mode, which is supposed to ensure a lower average power consumption. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 51.5 x 79.3 x 15 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 8.2 kg.
