LG 27GN880

Product image for 27GN880

Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the 27GN880 monitor from LG. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.

Display

Games, texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 27 inches ( 68.5 cm on the diagonal). As already known, two monitors with different outer dimensions can have the same screen diagonal. In the case of the monitor 27GN880 , we find an aspect ratio of 1.778 to 1. This means that for every 1 pixels in height, 1.778 pixels in width are added. For comparison: A classic CRT monitor had an aspect ratio of 4:3. Around 89.3 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest is made up of screen edges that cannot display images. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer those with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 108 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.233 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 280 nt. Above all, bright environments are a challenge for monitors. The brightness of the monitor is crucial for an accurate and color-true reproduction of the image to outshine the ambient light. The panel of the 27GN880 shines with a brightness of 350 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 98 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10

screen design

LG Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor 27GN880 without stand/feet: 36.5 cm x 61.4 cm x 5.5 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 48.4 x 61.4 x 41.1 cm (HxWxD). If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 8.12 kg with the stand screwed in. A wall mount should be designed for at least 4.22 kg to hold the 27GN880 neatly and securely. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 13 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from LG has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The 27GN880 can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 280 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 280 degree. It is possible to adjust the tilt angle of the monitor 27GN880 according to personal preference to ensure ergonomic and comfortable viewing. The angle of inclination to the rear is 25. The monitor can be tilted forward by 25 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 27GN880 with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
  • Nvidia G-SYNC
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that LG offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor 27GN880. The Adaptive Sync feature of the 27GN880 dynamically varies the monitor's refresh rate and responds to the game's required frame rates. The monitor from LG supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.

Power consumption

The average consumption figure for 27GN880 is 51 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 55 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. Generally, these values should be taken with a grain of salt, since the power consumption is highly dependent on the current conditions. A monitor usually consumes much more power in bright scenes with a high refresh rate than in dark still pictures. In addition, the 27GN880 has a (smart) energy-saving mode, which is supposed to ensure a lower average power consumption. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 1.3 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 47.7 x 71.6 x 24.6 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 11.39 kg.
