Today we will look at the monitor 27UP650 from LG from the year 2021. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.
Display
Let's start with the size of the actual display. This information is given in inches and measures the screen diagonal of the display. It can happen that displays with the same size specification have different dimensions, since square monitors, for example, can belong to the same category as a widescreen monitor. The monitor from LG in this article has a size of 27 inches ( 68.4 cm on the diagonal). As already known, two monitors with different outer dimensions can have the same screen diagonal. In the case of the monitor 27UP650 , we find an aspect ratio of 1.778 to 1. This means that for every 1 pixels in height, 1.778 pixels in width are added. For comparison: A classic CRT monitor had an aspect ratio of 4:3. Around 89.8 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest is made up of screen edges that cannot display images. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to prefer those with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 163 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.155 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer LG is 400 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. LG promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 40 hz up to 61 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 95 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from LG has a static contrast ratio of 1200 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 10
- HDR 400
screen design
For a possible wall mounting or comparison to the currently owned monitor at the beginning, the dimensions of the monitor without stand/feet: 36.3 cm x 61.3 cm x 4.5 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 45.9 x 61.3 x 29.3 cm (HxWxD). The base itself has a depth of 29.3 cm. As for the weight, LG states a total weight of 5.6 kg with stand. Without stand, the monitor weighs 3.8 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from LG has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. Thanks to the tilt function of the 27UP650 monitor, the screen position can be flexibly adjusted to minimize dazzling light sources and ensure optimum visibility. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.
Ports
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
The monitor from LG has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 5 w power.
Features
- Flicker Free: LG 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 27UP650 with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that LG offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor 27UP650. Game mode allows you to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience on your monitor. This mode can combine different settings on your monitor to provide a better picture and therefore an improved gaming experience. The monitor from LG supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.
Panel manufacturer
Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from LG or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from BOE and has the model number MV270QUM-N51.

Power consumption
In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. Generally, these values should be taken with a grain of salt, since the power consumption is highly dependent on the current conditions. A monitor usually consumes much more power in bright scenes with a high refresh rate than in dark still pictures. In addition, the 27UP650 has a (smart) energy-saving mode, which is supposed to ensure a lower average power consumption. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 24 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 7 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from LG should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 0 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 85 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 0 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to LG 60 °C. Minimal were given by LG -20 °C.
