Lenovo ThinkVision Creator Extreme

Product image for ThinkVision Creator Extreme

Today we will look at the monitor ThinkVision Creator Extreme from Lenovo from the year 2020. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.

Display

Let's start with the most important component of a monitor, the display. Depending on the aspect ratio of height and width, monitors can be rather wide or square, for example. Besides the pure physical dimensions, the resolution of the display and thus the quality of the display is also decisive here. For easy comparability, however, screen sizes are usually given in inches. This unit of measurement simply compares the diagonal length from the lower left to the upper right corner of the display and is thus universally applicable. This device has a screen diagonal of 27 inches ( 68.4 cm on the diagonal). While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.778 : 1 (width to height). Approximately 90.8 % of the front surface of the monitor is taken up by the display, while the remaining part is screen edges that do not allow the image to be displayed. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose models with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 163 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.155 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Lenovo is 620 nt. Above all, bright environments are a challenge for monitors. The brightness of the monitor is crucial for an accurate and color-true reproduction of the image to outshine the ambient light. The panel of the ThinkVision Creator Extreme shines with a brightness of 1200 nt. The panel is illuminated by Mini LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Lenovo promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the ThinkVision Creator Extreme 27 khz to 136 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 24 hz up to 60 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 99 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %. The REC 2020 color space is covered to 73 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Lenovo has a static contrast ratio of 1100 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 3000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor ThinkVision Creator Extreme cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10
  • HDR 1000
  • HDR HLG
  • Dolby Vision

screen design

Lenovo Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor ThinkVision Creator Extreme without stand/feet: 35.9 cm x 61.3 cm x 5.3 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 45.8 x 61.3 x 23.4 cm (HxWxD). The device weighs in total (i.e. also measured with the stand) 10.8 kg. Without stand, the monitor weighs 6.55 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 13.5 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Lenovo has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The ThinkVision Creator Extreme can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 45 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 45 degree. The monitor ThinkVision Creator Extreme can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 35. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Features

  • Picture in Picture mode
  • Integrated KVM Switch
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Lenovo offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor ThinkVision Creator Extreme.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 70 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 270 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Lenovo should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 95 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Lenovo 60 °C. Minimal were given by Lenovo -20 °C.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 49.3 x 75.8 x 20 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 13.5 kg.
