HP 27mx

Product image for 27mx

Today we will look at the monitor 27mx from HP from the year 2018. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.

Display

Let's start with the size of the actual display. This is given in inches and measures the screen diagonal of the display. The monitor 27mx has a display size of 27 inches ( 68.5 cm on the diagonal). It should be noted, however, that displays in this category can have different dimensions, since square monitors, for example, can have the same diagonal as a widescreen monitor. While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.778 : 1 (width to height). In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be relevant for some enthusiasts. This ratio represents the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words: Approximately 86.5 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and is not suitable for image reproduction. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, you should make sure you choose models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a TN panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The pixel density is 81 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.311 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer HP is 400 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 170 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. HP promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 160 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 144 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 72 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from HP has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 12000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor 27mx cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

The following dimensions must be planned for a free-standing stand without attached feet/stand: 37.8 cm x 61.3 cm x 5.5 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 51 x 61.3 x 21.6 cm (HxWxD). The device weighs 6.8 kg with the stand in place. The monitor has built-in RGB lighting. On some monitors, RGB lights are often used as "backlighting" or "ambient lighting". These may be placed on the back of the monitor and illuminate the screen outline or the space behind the monitor. Some monitors, on the other hand, use RGB lighting on the front or bottom of the screen to create visual effects that can be synchronized with the content being displayed.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from HP has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The 27mx can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 180 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 180 degree. The tilt of the monitor 27mx can be individually adjusted to optimize the viewing angle and increase comfort during use. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 4 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: HP 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the 27mx with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that HP offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor 27mx.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 28 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.37 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.19 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 35 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 5 °C , the monitor from HP should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 20 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 95 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to HP 60 °C. Minimal were given by HP -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.

Packaging

The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 46.3 x 70.2 x 19 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 8.08 kg.
