Dell 2709W

Product image for 2709W

Today we will look at the monitor 2709W from Dell from the year 2008. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.

Display

27 inches ( 68.4 cm on the diagonal) offer sufficient space for texts in any office applications, for example. Television screens and monitors usually have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (approximately 1.78:1). More rarely, computer monitors are also found with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
Ultrawidemonitors are often manufactured with an aspect ratio of 21:9 (approximately 2.34:1). They are mainly used for computer games and as an alternative to two side-by-side screens. The first devices of this type came onto the market around 2014. Against this backdrop, the monitor 2709W from Dell faces an aspect ratio of 1.6 : 1.
If you want to pay attention to special aesthetics or simply want to place several monitors next to each other, you should pay attention to the ratio between display and non-display. The 2709W is a monitor with a ratio of 80.8 % between usable and non-usable front surface. The display is a S panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px. The pixel density is 83 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.303 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Dell is 400 nt. The panel is illuminated by CCFL. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Dell promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the 2709W 30 khz to 81 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 76 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 110 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Dell has a static contrast ratio of 1300 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 3000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor 2709W cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 41.3 cm in height, 63.2 cm in width and 8.8 cm in depth is to be assumed.
The size of the 2709W on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. Dell specifies a space requirement of 45.1 x 63.2 x 20 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. The device weighs in total (i.e. also measured with the stand) 11 kg. A wall mount should be designed for at least 8.3 kg to hold the 2709W neatly and securely. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 9 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Dell cannot be rotated. The 2709W can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 40 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 40 degree. The monitor 2709W can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 21. The monitor can be tilted forward by 3 degree.

Ports

The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports. There are 1 HDMI ports on the monitor.

camera

This monitor does not have a camera.

Features

Panel manufacturer

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from Dell or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from Samsung and has the model number LTM270CS01.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 105 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 160 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 2 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 1 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 60 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 2 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Dell should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 90 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Dell 60 °C. Minimal were given by Dell -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
