Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the UltraSharp U3014 from Dell.

Display

The monitor belongs to the device class 29 inches ( 75.6 cm on the diagonal). As already mentioned or known, monitors have a certain number of pixels in height and width. In most cases, this is not a 1:1 ratio, which is also the case with the monitor from Dell. This monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.6 : 1. This means that every 1.6 pixels in width 1 pixels in height are added. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, some enthusiasts may also be interested in the ratio between the monitor area and the actual display. This refers to the general ratio between the non-display area and the display. In other words, approximately 82.9 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest is made up of screen edges and cannot display an image. When arranging several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a AH panel. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 px. The pixel density is 101 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.251 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Dell is 350 nt. The panel is illuminated by GB-r LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Dell promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the UltraSharp U3014 30 khz to 113 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 86 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 99 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 103 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Dell has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 2000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor UltraSharp U3014 cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

The following dimensions must be planned for a free-standing stand without attached feet/stand: 44.9 cm x 68.9 cm x 6.1 cm (HxWxD)
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 48.2 x 68.9 x 20.1 cm (HxWxD) of space. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 10.84 kg with the stand screwed in. The monitor UltraSharp U3014 without the stand weighs 7.35 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 9 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Dell cannot be rotated. The UltraSharp U3014 can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 30 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 30 degree. The monitor UltraSharp U3014 offers the option of adjusting the tilt as required to create an ergonomic working environment and reduce visual fatigue. The angle of inclination to the rear is 19. The monitor can be tilted forward by 3 degree.

Panel manufacturer

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from Dell or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from LG Display and has the model number LM300WQ6-SLA1.

Power consumption

The average consumption was given by Dell as 60 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 120 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.5 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 30 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 1.8 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Dell should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 90 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Dell 60 °C. Minimal were given by Dell -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 10.668 km.
