Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the UP3221Q from Dell.
Display
Any multimedia content can be displayed on 31 inches ( 80 cm on the diagonal). Let's keep it short and sweet. The monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 140 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.182 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Dell is 350 nt. The maximum brightness of the monitor is 1000 nt on the panel. The panel is illuminated by Mini LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Dell promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 60 hz up to 60 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The maximum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 93 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 99 %. The REC 2020 color space is covered to 83 %. "Calman Ready" is a certification awarded by the SpectraCal company and means that the UP3221Q monitor from Dell is compatible with SpectraCal's Calman software. Calman is a professional software for calibrating colors and image quality of monitors, TVs and projectors. When a monitor is designated as "Calman Ready", it means that it is capable of passing the necessary signals and information to Calman to perform accurate color correction and calibration. This feature is especially important for graphic designers, photographers, and other users who require high color accuracy and image quality.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Dell has a static contrast ratio of 1300 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 1000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor UP3221Q cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
- HDR 1000
- HDR HLG
screen design
The size of the UP3221Q on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. Dell specifies a space requirement of 46.3 x 71.2 x 25 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. The device weighs in total (i.e. also measured with the stand) 18.07 kg. A wall mount should be designed for at least 11.31 kg to hold the UP3221Q neatly and securely. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 16 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from Dell has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The UP3221Q can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 30 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 30 degree. The monitor UP3221Q can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 21. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Power consumption
The average consumption was given by Dell as 70 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 380 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.3 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 4.5 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is 40 °C during operation. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Dell should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 90 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Dell 60 °C. Minimal were given by Dell -20 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
Packaging
The box together with the monitor weighs about 24.33 kg.
