Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the S3422DWG monitor from Dell. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.

Display

Let's start with the size of the actual display. This is given in inches and measures the screen diagonal of the display. The monitor S3422DWG has a display size of 34 inches ( 86.4 cm on the diagonal). It should be noted, however, that displays in this category can have different dimensions, since square monitors, for example, can have the same diagonal as a widescreen monitor. While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 2.389 : 1 (width to height). In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, some enthusiasts may also be interested in the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display. This ratio describes the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words, approximately 89.8 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to give preference to models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a VA panel. The panel has a resolution of 3440 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 109 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.232 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Dell is 400 nt. The monitor's panel has a maximum brightness of 520 nt. A high peak brightness enables a particularly clear and well visible display of content on the screen. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Dell promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the S3422DWG 29 khz to 200 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The maximum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 82 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 90 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 99 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Dell has a static contrast ratio of 3000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 400

screen design

For a possible wall mounting or comparison to the currently owned monitor at the beginning, the dimensions of the monitor without stand/feet: 36.6 cm x 80.7 cm x 8.5 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 42.7 x 80.7 x 23.7 cm (HxWxD). The base itself has a depth of 23.7 cm. The width of the stand is 28.4 cm. As for the weight, Dell states a total weight of 10.38 kg with stand. Without stand, the monitor weighs 7.71 kg. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 10 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Curved

The S3422DWG is a curved monitor with a curvature of 1.8 m

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Dell has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 4 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 4 degree. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The tilt of the monitor S3422DWG can be individually adjusted to optimize the viewing angle and increase comfort during use. The angle of inclination to the rear is 21. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: Dell 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the S3422DWG with frame rate, AMD FreeSync Premium minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gaming. In addition, AMD FreeSync Premium guarantees that the monitor operates at a minimum of 120Hz at FHD and low framerate compensation (LFC) is available.
  • Picture in Picture mode

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Dell offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor S3422DWG.

Power consumption

The average consumption figure for S3422DWG is 30 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 90 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.3 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.2 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 3 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.

Environment

The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 5 km. During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from Dell should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 80 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 90 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 10 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to Dell 60 °C. Minimal were given by Dell -20 °C.
