Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the RoG Swift PG27UQ from Asus.

Display

Any multimedia content can be displayed on 27 inches ( 68.4 cm on the diagonal). The size specification of a monitor refers to the screen diagonal, which is usually specified in inches. It is only comparable to a limited extent for different formats. For example, a conventional 4:3 monitor with the same screen diagonal has 6% less width, but 13% more height and a total of 7% more surface area than a monitor in 16:10 format. Despite the difference in working area, wider monitors are better suited for consuming games or current movies, for example. It is also easier to display several documents simultaneously on widescreen monitors. So, it depends on the current use case whether the aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1 makes sense for the intended use case. Besides the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display is probably also relevant for some enthusiasts. This is the general ratio of non-display to display. In other words, 82.7 % of the monitor's front area consists of the display. The remaining percent consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, you should make sure that the edges are as small as possible. The display is a AHVA panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 163 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.155 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Asus is 600 nt. The monitor's panel reaches a peak brightness of 1000 nt. The panel is illuminated by Direct LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Asus promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the RoG Swift PG27UQ 30 khz to 268 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 24 hz up to 144 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 100 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 90 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 125 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Asus has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 100000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor RoG Swift PG27UQ cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10
  • HDR 1000

screen design

For a possible wall mounting or comparison to the currently owned monitor at the beginning, the dimensions of the monitor without stand/feet: 38.1 cm x 63.4 cm x 9.4 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the RoG Swift PG27UQ on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. Asus specifies a space requirement of 43.7 x 63.4 x 26.8 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. The device weighs in total (i.e. also measured with the stand) 9.2 kg. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 12 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Asus has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The RoG Swift PG27UQ can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 35 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 35 degree. The monitor RoG Swift PG27UQ offers the option of adjusting the tilt as required to create an ergonomic working environment and reduce visual fatigue. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Features

  • Flicker Free: Asus 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • Nvidia G-SYNC
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Panel manufacturer

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from Asus or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from AU Optronics and has the model number M270QAN02.2.

Power consumption

The average consumption was given by Asus as 90 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 180 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.5 w. In ECO mode, the monitor consumes 45 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 3.42 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
