Today we will look at the monitor PA329CV from Asus from the year 2020. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.

Games, texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the monitor's 31 inches ( 81.2 cm on the diagonal). When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to give preference to models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 137 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.185 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Asus is 350 nt. The maximum brightness of the monitor is 400 nt on the panel. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Asus promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the PA329CV 29 khz to 160 khz. Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %. "Calman Ready" is a certification awarded by the SpectraCal company and means that the PA329CV monitor from Asus is compatible with SpectraCal's Calman software. Calman is a professional software for calibrating colors and image quality of monitors, TVs and projectors. When a monitor is designated as "Calman Ready", it means that it is capable of passing the necessary signals and information to Calman to perform accurate color correction and calibration. This feature is especially important for graphic designers, photographers, and other users who require high color accuracy and image quality.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Asus has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 100000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor PA329CV cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

The size of the PA329CV on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. Asus specifies a space requirement of 47.1 x 72.7 x 24.5 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. The base itself has a depth of 24.5 cm. As for the weight, Asus states a total weight of 12.6 kg with stand. Without stand, the monitor weighs 8.03 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 13 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from Asus has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The PA329CV can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 30 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 30 degree. The tilt of the monitor PA329CV can be individually adjusted to optimize the viewing angle and increase comfort during use. The angle of inclination to the rear is 23. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Asus offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor PA329CV. The Adaptive Sync feature of the PA329CV dynamically varies the monitor's refresh rate and responds to the game's required frame rates.

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from Asus or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision.
