Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the U2879VF from AOC.
Display
According to the manufacturer, the display measures 28 inches ( 70.8 cm on the diagonal). As already mentioned or known, monitors have a certain number of pixels in height and width. In most cases, this is not a 1:1 ratio, which is also the case with the monitor from AOC. This monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1. This means that every 1.778 pixels in width 1 pixels in height are added. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be relevant for some enthusiasts. This ratio represents the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words: Approximately 84.7 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and is not suitable for image reproduction. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, you should make sure you choose models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a TN panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 157 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.162 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer AOC is 300 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 170 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. AOC promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 160 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the U2879VF 30 khz to 140 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 23 hz up to 80 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The maximum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).
Color space
The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the NTSC 1953 color space is 72 %.
Contrast ratio
Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from AOC has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 80000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor U2879VF cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.
HDR
The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:
screen design
AOC Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor U2879VF without stand/feet: 37.9 cm x 65.9 cm x 4.8 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the U2879VF on the desk is likely to be particularly relevant for most users. AOC specifies a space requirement of 46.8 x 65.9 x 15.3 cm (HxWxD) with the included stand. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 5.26 kg with the stand screwed in. A wall mount should be designed for at least 4 kg to hold the U2879VF neatly and securely.
Rotate, tilt and swivel
The monitor from AOC cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The tilt of the monitor U2879VF can be individually adjusted to optimize the viewing angle and increase comfort during use. The angle of inclination to the rear is 23. The monitor can be tilted forward by 3 degree.
Ports
The monitor can be connected via 1 VGA ports.
camera
This monitor does not have a camera.
Loudspeaker
Features
- Flicker Free: AOC 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
- AMD FreeSync: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the U2879VF with the frame rate, AMD FreeSync minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gameplay.
- Picture in Picture mode
- The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.
Panel manufacturer
Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from AOC or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from Innolux and has the model number M280DGJ-L30.
WiFi / Bluetooth
Power consumption
The average consumption figure for U2879VF is 41 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 65 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.5 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. There are 3.25 amps specified. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
Environment
The maximum height at which the monitor may be operated, according to the manufacturer's specifications, is 3.657 km. During operation, the ambient temperature must not exceed 40 °C , to ensure full functionality. Below a temperature of 0 °C , the monitor from AOC should again not be used. The humidity must not exceed 85 percent. At least, however, 10 percent humidity. The monitor may be stored at a maximum humidity of 93 percent. The minimum humidity during storage should not fall below 5 percent. The maximum storage temperature should be according to AOC 55 °C. Minimal were given by AOC -25 °C. According to the manufacturer, the monitor may be stored at a maximum height of 12.192 km.
Packaging
The monitor is packaged in a cardboard box measuring 54.3 x 73.2 x 15.9 cm (height x width x depth). The box together with the monitor weighs about 5.26 kg.
