Display, power consumption, dimensions, technologies used, connections, certifications, comfort features. All these keywords can be relevant for a purchase decision, but an exact comparison is often difficult. For this reason, we will summarize as many of the mentioned specifications as possible in an understandable form in the course of this article. Let's start with the most important component of the G2490VXS from AOC.

Display

The monitor belongs to the device class 23 inches ( 60.4 cm on the diagonal). Television screens and monitors usually have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (approximately 1.78:1). More rarely, computer monitors are also found with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
Ultrawidemonitors are often manufactured with an aspect ratio of 21:9 (approximately 2.34:1). They are mainly used for computer games and as an alternative to two side-by-side screens. The first devices of this type came onto the market around 2014. Against this backdrop, the monitor G2490VXS from AOC faces an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1.
In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display could also be relevant for some enthusiasts. This ratio represents the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words: Approximately 89.3 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the remaining percent consists of screen edges and is not suitable for image reproduction. If you want to place several monitors next to each other, you should make sure you choose models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a VA panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The pixel density is 92 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.275 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer AOC is 350 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. AOC promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the G2490VXS 30 khz to 160 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 144 hz. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte (3H).

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 94 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 110 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from AOC has a static contrast ratio of 4000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 50000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor G2490VXS cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

screen design

AOC Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor G2490VXS without stand/feet: 32.2 cm x 54.1 cm x 4.7 cm (HxWxD)
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 41.1 x 54.1 x 19.9 cm (HxWxD) of space. As for the weight, AOC states a total weight of 3.55 kg with stand. Without stand, the monitor weighs 2.88 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from AOC cannot be rotated. The monitor cannot be swiveled. This feature could be retrofitted with a third-party stand. The monitor G2490VXS can be tilted. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Ports

This monitor does not have a camera.

Loudspeaker

The monitor from AOC has integrated speakers, for playing sounds, music or speech. The sound is emitted via 2 speakers, which are integrated into the device. Each of the built-in speakers has a contingent of 2 w power.

Features

  • Flicker Free: AOC 's Flicker Free technology minimizes distracting screen flicker, allowing you to work and/or play longer without restrictions.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the G2490VXS with frame rate, AMD FreeSync Premium minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gaming. In addition, AMD FreeSync Premium guarantees that the monitor operates at a minimum of 120Hz at FHD and low framerate compensation (LFC) is available.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that AOC offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor G2490VXS. The Adaptive Sync feature of the G2490VXS dynamically varies the monitor's refresh rate and responds to the game's required frame rates. The monitor from AOC supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement. Motion Blur Reduction (also referred to as Motion Blur Reduction Technology or Motion Blur Reduction Sync) is a feature of G2490VXS , which is used to reduce motion blur when objects move quickly on the screen. This is achieved through a combination of technologies such as backlight strobing, overdrive and others. This improves the response time of the pixels to reduce motion blur, which can be particularly beneficial for video games, action movies, or other content with fast movements. However, this feature can lead to brightness loss or flickering, so it is important to adjust the settings accordingly and choose depending on the application.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 22 w. The maximum power consumption (peak) specified for this monitor is 42 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.5 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.5 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply.
