Product image for XV280K B

Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the XV280K B monitor from Acer. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.

Display

Let's start with the most important component of a monitor, the display. Depending on the aspect ratio of height and width, monitors can be rather wide or square, for example. Besides the pure physical dimensions, the resolution of the display and thus the quality of the display is also decisive here. For easy comparability, however, screen sizes are usually given in inches. This unit of measurement simply compares the diagonal length from the lower left to the upper right corner of the display and is thus universally applicable. This device has a screen diagonal of 28 inches ( 70.8 cm on the diagonal). The size specification of a monitor refers to the screen diagonal, which is usually specified in inches. It is only comparable to a limited extent for different formats. For example, a conventional 4:3 monitor with the same screen diagonal has 6% less width, but 13% more height and a total of 7% more surface area than a monitor in 16:10 format. Despite the difference in working area, wider monitors are better suited for consuming games or current movies, for example. It is also easier to display several documents simultaneously on widescreen monitors. So, it depends on the current use case whether the aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1 makes sense for the intended use case. In addition to the aspect ratios and the specified screen diagonal, some enthusiasts may also be interested in the ratio between the monitor surface and the actual display. This ratio describes the general relationship between non-display and display. In other words, approximately 89.6 % of the front surface of the monitor consists of the display, while the rest consists of screen edges and cannot display an image. When setting up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to give preference to models with the narrowest possible edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The pixel density is 157 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.161 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Acer is 300 cd/m2. The monitor's panel is characterized by its luminosity of 400 nt. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Acer promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the XV280K B 30 khz to 85 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 56 hz up to 76 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 90 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Acer has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 100000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor XV280K B cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio. The monitor from Acer supports adaptive contrast management, dynamically adjusting the contrast ratio of the input signal to ensure razor-sharp image displays. Each scene is continuously analyzed by XV280K B and the images are adjusted accordingly frame by frame. This analysis and dynamic adjustment of contrast is designed to enhance color quality and provide better black levels when displaying dark scenes and shaded/dark image sequences.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10
  • HDR 400

screen design

The following dimensions must be planned for a free-standing stand without attached feet/stand: 37.1 cm x 63.7 cm x 6.8 cm (HxWxD)
The size of the monitor (stand included) is 43.7 x 63.7 x 26.9 cm (HxWxD). If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 7.25 kg with the stand screwed in. The monitor XV280K B without the stand weighs 5.19 kg. This weight reduction should be taken into account for wall or arm mounting, since monitor arms have a maximum load capacity. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 18 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Acer has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The XV280K B can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 180 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 180 degree. Thanks to the tilt function of the XV280K B monitor, the screen position can be flexibly adjusted to minimize dazzling light sources and ensure optimum visibility. The angle of inclination to the rear is 35. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Acer offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor XV280K B. The monitor from Acer supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement.
