Today we will look at the monitor Predator XB273U GX from Acer from the year 2020. Within this article, we will first take a closer look at the most important feature of a monitor -the display-, then the design, and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Of course, power consumption, certifications, connectivity and other important details will also be considered.

Display

Let's start with the most important component of a monitor, the display. Depending on the aspect ratio of height and width, monitors can be rather wide or square, for example. Besides the pure physical dimensions, the resolution of the display and thus the quality of the display is also decisive here. For easy comparability, however, screen sizes are usually given in inches. This unit of measurement simply compares the diagonal length from the lower left to the upper right corner of the display and is thus universally applicable. This device has a screen diagonal of 27 inches ( 68.5 cm on the diagonal). Let's keep it short and sweet. The monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.778 : 1. The display is a AHVA panel. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 px. The pixel density is 108 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.233 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Acer is 350 cd/m2. The monitor's panel has a maximum brightness of 480 nt. A high peak brightness enables a particularly clear and well visible display of content on the screen. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Acer promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 270 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The average response time of the monitor is about ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte. The Predator XB273U GX monitor impresses with its function called 'Adaptive Brightness'. This technology automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen to the lighting conditions of the current scene. This ensures a pleasant and eye-friendly display in various situations.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 10 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. The coverage of the Adobe RGB 1998 color space is 99 % according to the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 95 %. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 100 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Acer has a static contrast ratio of 1200 : 1 , according to the manufacturer. In contrast to the static contrast ratio, the dynamic contrast ratio changes the brightness of the panel itself in addition to the difference measurement from black to white. In addition to the difference between the brightest and the darkest pixel, the backlight is thus changed. Since the brightness of the panel may not be able to be adjusted exactly to a single pixel, a so-called halo effect is possible. The value of 100000000 : 1 of dynamic contrast ratio for the monitor Predator XB273U GX cannot provide any information about the severity of the halo effect here. Therefore, it is more useful to compare the static contrast ratio. The monitor from Acer supports adaptive contrast management, dynamically adjusting the contrast ratio of the input signal to ensure razor-sharp image displays. Each scene is continuously analyzed by Predator XB273U GX and the images are adjusted accordingly frame by frame. This analysis and dynamic adjustment of contrast is designed to enhance color quality and provide better black levels when displaying dark scenes and shaded/dark image sequences.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 400

screen design

Acer Specifies the following dimensions for the monitor Predator XB273U GX without stand/feet: 33.6 cm x 61.1 cm x 6.9 cm (HxWxD)
The base itself has a depth of 23.6 cm. The width of the stand is 45.9 cm. If you want to place the monitor on a table or even transport it, you should expect a weight of 5.86 kg with the stand screwed in. Without stand, the monitor weighs 4.1 kg. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 11.5 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen. The monitor has built-in RGB lighting. On some monitors, RGB lights are often used as "backlighting" or "ambient lighting". These may be placed on the back of the monitor and illuminate the screen outline or the space behind the monitor. Some monitors, on the other hand, use RGB lighting on the front or bottom of the screen to create visual effects that can be synchronized with the content being displayed.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Acer has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 90 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The Predator XB273U GX can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 20 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 20 degree. The monitor Predator XB273U GX offers the option of adjusting the tilt as required to create an ergonomic working environment and reduce visual fatigue. The angle of inclination to the rear is 25. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Acer offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor Predator XB273U GX.

Panel manufacturer

Many manufacturers of monitors and TVs fall back on third-party manufacturers, such as Samsung or LG, when choosing the actual display (panel). Thus, many of the monitors have the same panel and, conversely, differ only in their design, additional functionalities, the software used and, of course, the price. Two monitors from Acer or another manufacturer with an identical panel do not necessarily have to have the same picture quality, but it is usually a first indicator for a purchase decision. The panel used here is originally from AU Optronics and has the model number M270DAN08.0.

WiFi / Bluetooth

Power consumption

On average, the monitor consumes approximately 32 w. In standby mode, the device consumes approximately 0.43 w. When switched off, on the other hand, the monitor consumes only 0.34 w. The monitor can be operated on a 110v power supply. The monitor can be operated on a 220v power supply. The power grid has to supply a frequency of 50 hz to 60 hz.
