Within this article we will take a closer look at the technical specifications of the ROG Strix XG249CM monitor from Asus. For this we will talk about all possible categories that could be relevant. To start with, we will look at the display, talk about the design and in the next section we will go into the features of the monitor. Other features such as power consumption, connectors and certifications will follow later in the text.

Display

Texts, videos and/or other applications can be displayed on the 23 inches ( 60.4 cm on the diagonal) of the monitor. While classic CRT monitors were built with a screen ratio of 4:3, this monitor has a ratio of 1.778 : 1 (width to height). Approximately 89 % of the front of the monitor is taken up by the display, while the remaining area consists of screen edges that cannot display any image information. If you want to set up several monitors next to each other, it is advisable to choose monitors with narrow edges. The display is a IPS panel. The panel has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The pixel density is 92 ppi. The pixel pitch is 0.275 mm. The continuous possible brightness specified by the manufacturer Asus is 350 cd/m2. The panel is illuminated by W-LED. The built-in panel ensures stable color reproduction of the image, even at deviating viewing angles, by means of its 178 ° (horizontal) viewing angle. Asus promises stable color reproduction moreover within a 178 ° vertical angle. The refresh rate is horizontally seen at the ROG Strix XG249CM 31 khz to 300 khz. Vertically, however, the image renews at a minimum rate of 48 hz up to 270 hz. The minimum response time of the monitor is ms. The display panel is Anti-glare/Matte.

Color space

The panel has a bit depth of 8 per color channel, but what does that mean? The number of bits determines how many colors can be encoded for the individual pixels of the display. For an 8-bit panel, for example, this is 256 different colors (2^8 = 256). However, since we usually display three different colors per pixel at the same time, in theory about 16 million (256^3) different colors are possible by mixing the three pixels. A 10-bit panel could even display a billion colors. According to the manufacturer, the coverage of the SRGB color space is 105 %.

Contrast ratio

Contrast ratio is a common measurement used to represent the maximum relative differences in brightness between black and white. It describes the ability of a screen or projector to produce a high-contrast image and is the quotient of the maximum and minimum displayable luminance. The higher the values are away from each other, the stronger the quantitatively seen difference between black and white is set up, which in turn results in an improved image quality. This monitor from Asus has a static contrast ratio of 1000 : 1 , according to the manufacturer.

HDR

The monitor supports all HDR modes listed here:

  • HDR 10

screen design

For the installation of the monitor, a space requirement of approximately 32.5 cm in height, 54 cm in width and 5.7 cm in depth is to be assumed.
If you want to place the monitor described here on the desk without a wall mount, you should allow for 38.8 x 54 x 23.8 cm (HxWxD) of space. The base itself has a depth of 23.8 cm. The device weighs in total (i.e. also measured with the stand) 6.6 kg. According to Asus , you can expect a weight of about 3.2 kg without the stand. Speaking of weight without a stand and thus wall or table mounts. The monitor supports a Vesa mounting. A height-adjustable stand ensures an improved ergonomic posture during use. The monitor can be moved to a maximum height of 10 cm. This value is always measured from the bottom edge of the screen.

Rotate, tilt and swivel

The monitor from Asus has a pivot function and can thus be rotated using the included stand. A rotation to the left is possible with up to 0 degree. To the right, the monitor can be rotated by 90 degree. The ROG Strix XG249CM can be swiveled when mounted on the included stand. Pivoting to the left is possible up to 25 degree. Pivoting to the right is possible up to 25 degree. It is possible to adjust the tilt angle of the monitor ROG Strix XG249CM according to personal preference to ensure ergonomic and comfortable viewing. The angle of inclination to the rear is 20. The monitor can be tilted forward by 5 degree.

  • AMD FreeSync Premium: By dynamically synchronizing the refresh rate of the ROG Strix XG249CM with frame rate, AMD FreeSync Premium minimizes judder and ensures smooth and enjoyable gaming. In addition, AMD FreeSync Premium guarantees that the monitor operates at a minimum of 120Hz at FHD and low framerate compensation (LFC) is available.
  • Integrated KVM Switch
  • Nvidia G-SYNC
  • The display/monitor supports Frame Rate Compensation.

Anyone who works a lot on the computer spends many hours a day in front of the screen. Excessive screen work can damage the eyes. This effect can be particularly pronounced during the darker hours and in the winter months. Many monitor manufacturers have now reacted and offer technologies and settings to reduce the blue component, which is primarily controversial. Depending on the manufacturer, these can be called "Low Blue Light", "Low Blue Light Technology", "SoftBlue" or even "Eye Saver Mode" and function differently. However, it is only important that Asus offers a technology to reduce the blue content in its monitor ROG Strix XG249CM. Game mode allows you to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience on your monitor. This mode can combine different settings on your monitor to provide a better picture and therefore an improved gaming experience. The monitor from Asus supports the reduction of artifacts within dark image areas, which are caused by compression of the played video files, for example. Depending on the manufacturer, this technology is called Black Boost, Dark Boost, Black Stabilizer, Black Equalizer or Black Enhancement. Motion Blur Reduction (also referred to as Motion Blur Reduction Technology or Motion Blur Reduction Sync) is a feature of ROG Strix XG249CM , which is used to reduce motion blur when objects move quickly on the screen. This is achieved through a combination of technologies such as backlight strobing, overdrive and others. This improves the response time of the pixels to reduce motion blur, which can be particularly beneficial for video games, action movies, or other content with fast movements. However, this feature can lead to brightness loss or flickering, so it is important to adjust the settings accordingly and choose depending on the application.
